How to prepare for your headshot session
A little prep goes a long way. Here is what we tell every client the week before their shoot.

The clients who get the best results are almost always the ones who showed up prepared. Not over-prepared and stressed, just ready. A few simple things in the days before your Seattle headshot session or Bellevue headshot session make a real difference in how relaxed and natural you look on camera.
Get a good night of sleep
This sounds obvious but it shows up in every frame. Puffy eyes, flat skin, and low energy are hard to retouch around. If you can, avoid alcohol the night before and drink more water than usual in the days leading up to the shoot.
Get your hair done the day before, not the day of
Fresh haircuts and new color can look stiff on the day of. One day of settling in usually makes hair sit more naturally. If you are getting a blowout, same rule applies. Day-of hair tends to look overly done in photos.
Know what you want to say with the photos
Before your session, spend a few minutes thinking about where these photos are going. Is it your LinkedIn? A speaker bio? A new website? That context helps us make decisions about background, expression, and cropping on the day.
We will ask you this at the start of every session anyway but coming in with an answer saves time and usually leads to better shots because you already have the end use in mind.
Relax your face before you arrive
Seriously. Most people walk into a shoot with tension in their jaw and forehead they do not even notice. On the drive over, try dropping your shoulders, loosening your jaw, and taking a few slow breaths. The camera picks up stress faster than anything else.
We always spend the first few minutes of a session just talking before we shoot anything. But the more relaxed you are walking in, the faster we get to the frames that actually look like you.
